The German government said on Sunday it was reviewing its hundreds of millions of euros of aid for Palestinians following the biggest attack on Israel in years by Palestinian Islamist group Hamas.

Development Minister Svenja Schulze said the government had always been careful to check that the money was only used for peaceful ends.

“But these attacks on Israel mark a terrible fracture,” she said. “We will now review our entire engagement for the Palestinian territories.”

Then again, Israel didn’t go into another country and behead people at the party.

Yeah they just perpetuate a system of apartheid and kill innocent people all the time. Totally different and normal behaviour. Give them more weapons, boys!

You are right, and wrong at the same time.

Depends on who you are talking about and who you are talking to.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

BERLIN, Oct 8 (Reuters) - The German government said on Sunday it was reviewing its hundreds of millions of euros of aid for Palestinians following the biggest attack on Israel in years by Palestinian Islamist group Hamas.

Development Minister Svenja Schulze said the government had always been careful to check that the money was only used for peaceful ends.

Germany would discuss with Israel how development projects in the region could best be served, and coordinate with international partners, said the minister for German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s centre-left government.

Some German lawmakers, from the opposition conservatives in particular, called for an end to the aid.

“All of Europe, all 27 states, must now say: we need a new start and we will no longer finance terrorists,” said Armin Laschet, chancellor candidate for the conservatives at the last federal election, calling for an end to EU cooperation with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who is based in the West Bank.

Gregor Gysi, a prominent member of the opposition Left party argued against such a move, saying Hamas, and not all Palestinians, were responsible for the attack.

When two sides fight, it’s the people who they represent that suffer. The people in power waging the wars never face any consequences for violence.

All Western governments need to evaluate “aid” to countries like Palestine. Billions are sent each year to countries like Afghanistan, and it’s immediately used to oppress, abuse, and murder women and minorities. We need to stop funding terrorists and pretending to be surprised when they use our funds to terrorise people.

There was hope people are less easy to abuse when they suffer less, and have some education.

There’s also a humanitarian argument to be made. After all, these are humans, not everyone’s pawn.

I agree it did not work as well. On the other side, we don’t know how much worse it could have been without outside help.

I hope we’ve conclusively proven that theory to be false. Throw this on top of the theory that, as nations industrialise, they naturally democratise and become more peaceful. China has categorically proven this false.
