The king of Jordan poured cold water on German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s hopes that neighboring Arab countries could take in Palestinian refugees who are fleeing the Gaza Strip ahead of an anticipated ground offensive by the Israeli army.

The rebuff by King Abdullah II was made Tuesday morning at a press conference with Scholz following a meeting in the chancellery in Berlin, which Scholz also used to issue a warning to Iran and to Hezbollah against intervening in the Israel-Hamas conflict.

“I think I can speak here on behalf of Jordan … but also our friends in Egypt: This is a red line … no refugees to Jordan and also no refugees to Egypt,” King Abdullah said at the press conference.

This is unsurprising. They still remember the coup attempt from 1970. This gives them the ability to show support without actually doing anything. In some ways this is tacit consent from Jordan and Egypt to allow Israel to wipe out Hamas.

It will also make it more likely that there will be a humanitarian crisis in Gaza very soon.

Understandable. The world saw what happened last time there was a mass expulsion of Palestinians from Palestine. Refugees are meant to return to their home, eventually - Israel has no interest in letting any Palestinians back to complicate the matter of land seizure.

They’ve already accepted enough, it’s not like they have the resources to spare anyway

Well, if they leave they’ll lose their land forever.

It’s bizarre. Think of it as if China take part of the USA and keep expanding every now and then killing US citizens in the process.

I find what Russia is doing to Ukraine is light years understandable than what Zionism is doing to the world.

This is Egypt’s reasoning as well. The US and Israel want Egypt to accept all the Palestinians in exchange for Israel opening and not bombing the border crossing.

Egypt said no, they have to allow humanitarian aid into south Gaza, and stop the bombing in south Gaza. And only dual citizens are allowed to leave.

South Gaza is where Israel said the Palestinians should evacuate to. Note that Israel is bombing north and south Gaza.

Israel is refusing. They want all the Palestinians out of their land.

I mean, this is the textbook definition of ethnic cleansing. Israel is commiting ethnic cleansing and genocide for everyone to see. They’re not even being subtle about it in the language they’ve used at press conferences.

The US, European Union countries and their allies are willing accomplices to ethnic cleansing and genocide. They are absolutely complicit in the murder of Palestinian men, women and children.

Will any of them be denounced by the International criminal court? Are they going to issue an arrest warrant for Netanyahu and the others for clearly commiting war crimes?

We all know the answer to that.

Edit: if Palestinians leave Gaza they would never be allowed to return. Israel will annexe that land like they’ve done with Palestinian land countless times before. And it will become the new normal to pretend that the land was always part of Israel.

Of course they won’t. Israel is hunting down Palestinians wherever they may be. If anyone takes in refugees, they’ll go after them as well. They don’t want to risk war with Israel. Especially since they are being backed by every western nation in the world.

Israel is hunting down Palestinians wherever they may be.

      lol. lmao even.

Yep, it’s well known that Israel has been routinely bombing the West Bank and conducting land operations to kill every Palestinian there they can find. Israel also frequently sends in the IDF into Jordan to murder the two million registered Palestinian refugees there. Oh, wait. That isn’t true at all.

I’m not going to pretend that this isn’t an enormously messy situation, but ignoring the fact the Jordan does have two million Palestinian refugees that arrived in the 20th century and thus your premise is already completely wrong, you know as well as I do that Israel is not attempting to “hunt down Palestinians wherever they may be”. Considering the population within Gaza and the West Bank has grown by 2.2 million since the year 2000, they’ve clearly not been doing a very good job.
