Yes I know our government in the United States has plenty of blood on its hands especially in South america. And as a socialist myself I automatically have sympathy for the Socialists. However I’m not ideologically anything per se at least not anything that’s incompatible with democracy. Something Maduro seems highly incompatible with.

I really wish we’d stay out of it especially announcing anyone as the winner. But by the same token I still want the receipts public and the will of the people represented even if it’s the far right party that won. Because otherwise you go down the path of leninism and all the damage they’ve done.

I watched the full OEA meeting and there were lots of countries besides the US that had strong words against Maduro’s stunts, particularly countries that used to be dictatorships (some backed by the US) who a democratic Venezuela at the time strongly criticized and cut ties with until they returned to democracy again and these countries now feel like they owe Venezuela the same support at this time. It was very moving. Anybody out there who thinks this is just about the US, oil or left/right knows nothing about Latin America’s dark history with dictators.

Yep and that is absolutely fine. I just think that the United States isn’t going to make anything clearer or Easier by stepping in. Giving official proclamations and statements. Due to our history with the region.

Yes, I agree. No troops, support whatever the Latin American states say, they know what they’re doing. Coming out swinging doesn’t help.

I would have the tiniest bit of respect for Maduro if he had just told everyone that democracy was suspended and that he was dictator for life and stop making fools of his voters, neighbouring countries and international institutions. At least this would not destabilize the democracies in the rest of SA. Maybe the next Bolsonaro will try this new trick to stay in power and you people will eat it up if he says “US bad”. It’s so easy.

No, the idea here is not to pretend to be a democracy and to go when you lose that’s all. The Saudis and the Cubans in charge can do whatever they want while their people let them.

(I can’t see what you said anymore, btw)

Us should stop acting like they care about democracy when it’s action say otherwise

I don’t listen to the US on this issue, they are not an honest broker. I listen to Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Argentina, Peru, Mexico, Uruguay, etc. Hay más mundo y intenciones por ahi que solo los Estados Unidos y a la maioria no les gusta lo que está haciendo Maduro.

They are brought up to think that way. If it doesn’t come from a US/Nato approved source it must be propaganda.

THIS is what you think is real journalism?

Yet today, like a pack of vicious hyenas, the fascist far right – and not so far right – nations and NGOs are howling for Venezuela to release the detailed results immediately. The implication being that there is some sort of fraud or hidden trick. They DEMAND that the Electoral Authority (CNE) release the remaining votes, which the world should know are not little pieces of paper in a cardboard box. In Venezuela the vote is done electronically, the paper trail is only an added security measure to show that someone has duly voted.

How do we know all this? Firstly, because the terrorists are being rounded up, alive, without killing any one of them and they are talking. The terrorists aren’t fighting for any ideology or democracy, they are craven cowards that assault defenseless people, but when caught, fall on their knees crying and telling everything they know to the authorities.

No facts, just a gruesome opinion of people who talk down to voters (who at best misunderstand what is happening) like they are cattle. Don’t forget that even if Maduro’s aggregate results were legitimate, the opposition would have about half the vote, so a worthy leader would do everything possible to be transparent, patient and apaciguador, not this inflamatory fascist bullshit. These people couldn’t spot a fascist in front of them even if it hit them in the head with a shovel.
