About 200 South Korean farmers who breed and raise dogs for human consumption held a rally on Thursday near the presidential office in the capital Seoul, demanding the government scrap a plan to ban the controversial centuries-old practice.
Yeah, that’s what I don’t understand. I don’t really see any moral distinction between eating dogs/cats/horses vs pigs/cows/chickens. It seems like the only logically consistent positions are to ban it all or allow it all; picking and choosing doesn’t make much sense.
Its the vacinity of relationships people perceive. Same reason why in Rain World your main source of food as the player is something that is hard to identify with (a batfly). People are more offended by others eating dogs because most people perceive them as closer to us than other animals. It isn’t true in the slightest, but I hope this brought some understanding. Its all perception and misunderstanding. We eat living beings when other living beings literally make things made to eat (fruits). Its a mutually beneficial trade, they get their seeds spread and we get a lil’ treat.
One of those are kept as pets by a large majority of people while the others are mostly kept as food sources.
I don’t think it’s fair that the small minority of people that prefer not to eat livestock act callous towards those that oppose eating dog and generally don’t care about peppa and friends.
Not everyone has the gift to to think about the nature of their reality and all the tiny details that make up our decisions in this world but everyone does have the capacity for empathy.
So you think that some farmers protesting the loss of their livelihood is as unacceptable as a sanctioned autocracy that constantly fires missiles towards their neighbours?
The mistake youre making is assuming any dog breed is being used as food (it isnt).
Similar to cow breeds, there are cow breeds that for millenia were not used for food (go look up the history of Wagyu), but youre okay with eating a cow breed that wasnt considered food till the 1800s.

Eating dogs is as disgusting as eating cows, pigs and chickens.

100% agree. A dog is no smarter or more “special” than a pig.

It’s because dogs aren’t prey animals.
And are much more intelligent than chickens.
Besides, bacon is God’s own nutrition.

Only if it’s free-range
