This is awful. I drive my model 3 a lot. I’m in the middle of a 5000 mile (round trip) holiday trip back to see my family. I stop every 2 - 2.5 hours for 15-30 mins. Each of those legs gets me 200-240 miles. It keeps me awake stopping this often though, and it doesn’t add that much time (about 1-1.5 hours for a 6 hour drive). It’s also good for our dog to get out and stretch a bit.

But this truck is charging 2 - 3 times slower. That’s abysmal. That would make a 6 hour drive into a 10 hour drive. This is not how you get people to adopt EVs.

The article has some good details about why this might be a temporary software limitation. Not really an excuse though — you shouldn’t be shoving a car out the door that’s still in “beta” just to meet a deadline.

Yea. They have been able to even update the efficiency and charging curve of the car via a software update, which has been nice. Hopefully they do it quickly now.

      I don’t get it.

Wouldn’t you use mostly the same electronics, similar or better? Incremental improvement to about reinventing the wheel constantly. How the hell do you go to something 2-3 times worse ten years later?

Imagine AMD or Nvidia bringing out a video card that performed 2-3 times worse than a cars 10 years ago?

So the cyber truck is bigger, so it uses more energy when driving. It’s about 2x worse. But the battery is bigger too. So it should charge about the same curve and be less than 2x the charging time.
