We might have that here, but half the people I know work jobs that still expect them to be on call all the time and would get in serious trouble if they turned of their phones during busy periods. So while yes, in theory it’s great, our toxic work culture seems to cancel it out quite well.

How about chess? I know you said you are not really looking for video games, but chess to me is a bit different to video games.

I had a similar problem to you a few years ago during Covid. I was very stressed and lonely and didn’t know what to do with myself. I am completely addicted to chess now. To the point that I play for like 4-8h a night sometimes. Time passes fast, especially in the shorter time modes. And if you are looking for a more low stakes, slow paced distraction you can play correspondents chess and think about your next move for 1.5 hours.

Bonus: if i tell people that i play chess for over an hour every day, they often assume i am a genius, even tho I’m just a 800 elo idiot like most people

Don’t get me wrong, fuck Jeff Bezos’ pampered ass. But growing a giant dystopian mega corp out of 250k is kind of impressive.

I know quite a few privileged people with more money than that and every chance in life one could hope for. None of them would be able to achieve anything close to what he did. They simply aren’t ruthless and megalomaniacal enough.

People in western nations are largely responsible for climate change. Someone in Syria won’t be flying around the world and buying new clothes all the time. But they will be the ones hit the hardest by climate change, so they will likely either die or become refugees trying to come to the west.

Also, a lot of our western wealth is based on exploitation of those nations (through colonialism and later capitalism or wars). So if westerners don’t want people from poor countries to come to the west they should help those nations to recover from that exploitation.

Furthermore we need to do these things, because a bigger influx of desperate migrants will steer western politics even further to the right. That’s never a great thing and will lead to more inequality and possibly the collapse of our democratic systems.

Finally to your point about migrants being more criminal. That is largely a result of worse economic circumstances and outlooks. Improve their chances and watch the crime rate drop.

Also zumindest anekdotisch ist meine Erfahrung anders. Kenne genug junge Leute die als Teenager bereits über Sport und Titten geködert wurden und mittlerweile Bild als einzige “Zeitung” lesen. Das macht Bild ja leider so erfolgreich. Die haben egal ob du auf Sport, Computer, Horoskope oder Klatsch stehst für alle was dabei.

Abgerufen wird’s dann meistens über die App, oder, wie von dir schon genannt, Social Media.

Jetzt wo du’s sagst, das wird interessant. Wenn die eh schon zu besoffenen Leute auch noch nach dem Zelt einen rauchen wird es auf der Kotzwiese sicher nochmal voller als es eh schon ist… aber vielleicht hilft es bisschen gegen die Schlägereien wenn die Leute entspannter sind.

Ich persönlich fände es sehr attraktiv abends im Riesenrad einen zu heizen und mir die Lichter anzuschauen.

Für mich hat das nicht zwingend was mit Bildung zu tun. Ist zwar nur anekdotisch aber in meinem Umfeld gibt es genauso viele Akademiker wie weniger gebildete Menschen die auf Populisten wie Söder, Merz und alles rechts davon reinfallen.

Meine Deutung ist, dass sich viele Leute mit der aktuellen Situation überfordert fühlen, sie sind unsicher, haben Angst oder sind wütend. In so einer Drucksituation wünschen sie sich einfache und schnelle Lösungen und ignorieren oft komplexere, unangenehme oder langfristigere Ansätze.

Ein Rattenfänger wie Söder, der mit einfachen, aber oft sehr kurzfristig gedachten Lösungsansätzen um sich schmeißt tut sich deshalb bei diesen Leuten leichter.

Das heißt nicht dass Söder die Sachlage nicht versteht. Ich bin mir sogar sehr sicher dass er sie sehr gut versteht. Er weiß aber auch, dass seine Wähler keine nuancierte Betrachtung des Problems wollen. Wer Angst hat oder wütend ist will einfach nur eine Lösung.

Hinzu kommt noch dass diese Wähler meist selbst keine Einschränkungen in ihren Lebensstil haben wollen. Da viele von Habecks Ideen mit persönlichen Einschränkungen verbunden sind, ist er auch deshalb deutlich unbeliebter. Söder hingegen schreit permanent nach mehr, da ist nie von Einschränkungen die Rede. Außer bei Migranten und Drogen und das betrifft seine Wähler nicht.

TLDR: Ängste, ohnmächtige Wut, Unsicherheiten und Egoismus sind Schwachstellen die von Populisten ausgenutzt werden. Diese Ängste mögen in bildungsfernen Schichten auf Grund einer schlechteren sozioökonomischen Lage weiter verbreitet sein, Bildung macht jedoch lange nicht immun.

My problem with it is that most headlines make it sound like it’s all gonna implode spectacularly tomorrow. The articles themselves usually paint a more reasonable picture of the situation, similar to your comment. But most people don’t read the article. They just see the headline over and over.

Feels like I’ve been reading headlines like this for at least 3 years now. If it all finally comes crashing down, it’s gonna be a big one I guess.

It’s the most popular and most hated newspaper in Germany. I would put it at a similar level as Rupert Murdoch’s shit rags.

They usually have dubious journalistic standards, write exaggerated headlines and harass their targets. They also constantly badmouth progressive or environmental causes because their shitty publisher, Axel Springer Verlag, has a very imperialist neoliberal agenda that they enforce in all their publications. I blame them in part for the popularity of AfD, even though they don’t directly endorse them (as far as I know).

Das alles mal so dahingestellt. Zusätzlich dazu hat ein gesetzlicher freier Tag weitere soziale Vorteile, die über den Arbeiterschutz hinausgehen.

Es ermöglicht der Bevölkerung sich politisch zu organisieren, da es einen Tag gibt, an dem alle Zeit haben.

Auch der soziale Austausch durch (leider aussterbende) Vereine wird dadurch erleichtert.

Familien haben wegen unterschiedlichen Terminen oft nur am Sonntag die Möglichkeit gemeinsam etwas zu unternehmen.

Es gibt bestimmt noch mehr, aber ich bin ehrlich gesagt auch kein Fachmann für die ganze Thematik.

Ich bin mir sicher du hast recht, die leben und arbeiten da sehr zufrieden. Unter anderem, weil sie einen sehr guten Arbeiterschutz haben.

Nachdem wir aber nicht davon sprechen gute dänische Arbeiterschutzmaßnahmen zu adoptieren, sondern einen von unseren Schutzmechanismen abzuschaffen, hieße das ja dann am Ende nur, dass wir unseren eigenen Arbeiterschutz schwächen.

Hättest du jetzt erwartet dass die da alle den ganzen Tag weinen weil sie am Sonntag arbeiten müssen?

Selbst in ner Textilfabrik in Bangladesh werden wahrscheinlich nicht alle Angestellten permanent aussehen wie das Elend in Person.

Das heißt noch lange nicht, dass Angestellte dort nicht auch gerne einen gesetzlichen freien Tag hätten.

Nur weil andere Berufe und Länder schlechtere Arbeitsbedingungen haben, heißt das lange nicht dass man sich daran anpassen muss.

Und ließ mal lieber nochmal nach was ein Strohmann ist, bevor du hier mit großen Wörtern um dich schmeißt, ohne ihren Sinn zu verstehen.
