  • I’d like to have laws that require AI companies to publicly list their sources/training materials.

I’d like to see laws defining what counts as AI, and then banning advertising non-compliant software and hardware as “AI”.

I’d like to see laws banning the use of generative AI for creating misleading political, social, or legal materials.

My big problems with AI right now, are that we don’t know what info has been scooped up by them. Companies are pushing misleading products as AI, while constantly overstating the capabilities and under-delivering, which will damage the AI industry as a whole. I’d also want to see protections to keep stupid and vulnerable people from believing AI generated content is real. Remember, a few years ago, we had to convince people not to eat tidepods. AI can be a very powerful tool for manipulating the ranks of stupid people.

  • It’s not too bad. You can get passable in a manual with less than a day of practice.

There are a lot of good tips in here, but I’ll add a few that seem to be missing/less prioritized.

Practice rev matching while down shifting. You’ll be a lot more comfortable with the car if you can get into a lower gear faster. This will allow you to pass and accelerate smoother and with confidence.

Practice recovering from a stall (although you’re probably going to do this accidentally anyway). Foot on brake, push the clutch all the way in, shift to neutral or 1st (I prefer 1st to get into gear faster), start the car, and get moving. This process should be fairly automatic and done within a second or two.

On that note, don’t worry about stalling the car. It feels terrible, and embarrassing, but it’s not really damaging the vehicle (might wear out the engine mounts a little faster, but no one really cares).

    Most important, have fun!

  • Back when I was working retail, my friends/coworkers tried to hook my up with this South African gal. She was very pretty, had an amazing accent, but after a few minutes, she just started dropping the most casually racist shit I’d ever heard in my life.

Stuff like “America is great, the people are prepared here, if you know what I mean.”…“there were so many people in SA who wouldn’t prepare, or work, or save anything” she was very obviously talking about black SAs at this point .

I broke it off pretty quickly. My out was that she was horribly racist, and a Mac user.
