  • The really ugly thing here is, al-Sharaa is the best thing to happen to Syria in decades. Most people have been urging recognition of his government and the relaxation of sanctions because he’s about as good we can expect a leader of Syria to be.

And he is still bribing Trump.

This isn’t merely corruption. This is the *normalization * of corruption. Even countries that abide by democratic norms and international law are going to need to grease palms to conduct regular diplomatic relations. The EU and UK and Canada might be able to weather his bullshit until he folds like he always does, but developing nations will be stuck trying to bid for American favor.

    Welcome to the Chinese century.

The really irritating thing to me is seeing the Trumpanzees mock Canada, talking like this is the end of Canada as a country.

No self-awareness, no realization that Trump’s policies are the direct cause of this. They can’t conceive of any way to advance their interests beyond people just abasing themselves before Trump.

  • In all honesty, if he left politics and stayed out of it I wouldn’t my just leaving him to his harem and 40k.

America’s democracy is in dire enough straits that we don’t need to be stuck fighting the world’s richest man on top of the whole mechanism of government. If he’ll get and stay gone, I say leave him to it.

On the other hand, he’s rich enough that he can jump back in at any time and go back to fucking our democracy and he’s proven to be impulsive and mercurial, willing to throw his lot in with fascists because he got trolled on Twitter over how skin deep his progressive credentials are.
