I also use it since win 95. And really gad no Problems over the last years. Maybe the start if win10 was a little rough but after that no issues.I have used it for All kind of stuff: gaming, graphics 3d and 2d, game dev, programming, a lot of music production, writing and just tinkering around. I am no admin though, so i have no opinion on that. The only Thing where performance was bad, was on my old laptop which i Switched to Linux, but on my main PC no complaints. I do wish to switch to Linux at some point but right now some Software and Hardware i use just isnt supported, so there is really no good reason to switch now.

Well there is a lot to critizise on Windows, but to be honest i didnt have any Problems with Updates, crashes, installing Software and drivers or anything Else on Windows in years. Even upgrading from win 10 to 11 caused no issues. I do want to switch to Linux when the Hardware and Software i need is eventually supported, because i dont like all the privacy issues on Windows, but from a Performance and stability point of view i really cant complain about Windows at the Moment

Achso, ich will gar nicht irgendwie unfreundlich klingen. Es geht nir nur ein wenig auf die Nerven. Ich möchte ja wechseln, aber das ist objektiv betrachtet nur mit Einschränkungen möglich. Teilweise bin ich bereit für Kompromisse, aber was sowas angeht wie meine Maschine mk3, auf die werde ich auf keinen Fall verzichten. Und die linux community ist da oft einfach nicht ganz ehrlich zu sich selbst ubd wechselwilligen. Oft wird da behauptet, daß swi alles ganz easy und es gäbe super Alternativen usw. Aber das stimmt oft genug nicht oder nur Teilweise. Damit tut sich die linux community meiner Meinung nach keinem gefallen wwiö es falsche Erwartungen weckt. Und dann sind die Leute die linux mal ausprobieren schnell frustriert, weil vieles dann doch nur mit großem Aufwand und oft nur Teilweise möglich ist.

Ich habt bitwig, das wäre nicht das Problem. Mein Problem ist vor allem maschine bzw native Instruments. Ja das geht scheinbar mit yabridge , aber erstens wird auf der yabridge Seite gesagt, dass die aktuellen Versionen von zb native access nicht funktionieren und zweitens kam mir die Installation wieder furchtbar komplex vor. Bei Windows klicke ich “install” und kann mich aufs wesentliche, das mukke machen, konzentrieren. Letzten Endes funktioniert meine Maschine mk 3 aber halt einfach nicht unter linux und damit hat sich das thema eigentlich auch erledigt.

Habs ausprobiert, gab nur Probleme, unter anderem beim medienimport, ich habe dann recherchiert und bin auf zahlreiche Beiträge und Videos gestoßen, die die gleichen Probleme geschildert haben.

Klar geht alles, aber: Nein , gimp ist kein adäquater ersatz für Photoshop oder affinity, genauso wenig wie inkscape ein Ersatz für Illustrator ist. Das gleiche gilt für Video Produktion bspw mit davinci. Das betrifft meistens den Funktionsumfang der bei linux open source Optionen geringer ist, und immer die UX die vergleichsweise katastrophal ist.

Das gleiche betrifft musikprouktion, ja es gibt ganz nette open source DAWs für linux und gute vsts(wobei es hier eher um gute synths geht, bei sample basierten vsts biste bei den free Sachen ziemlich aufgeschmissen), aber qualitativ kommen die nicht an die proprietäre Software von Arturia, native Instruments, ableton und Co heran. Hinzukommt meine hardware DAW die linux einfach nicht unterstützt. Ich bin nicht bereit, meine Sammlung teurer hard und software in den Müll zu schmeißen, um auf Alternativen (wenn diese denn überhaupt existieren) minderer Qualität umzusteigen.

Bzgl android: ich brauche halt android auto.

Grafik-> Affinity Suite, läuft eher mäßig unter linux Video-> Davinci, unterstützt offiziell Linux, das ist aber eine Lüge Am wichtigsten-> musikprouktion, hab jede Menge vsts die nicht nativ unterstützt werden , man mit yabridge runfummeln muss, um die irgendwie ans Laufen zu kriegen, wenn es denn klappt. Ausserdem habe ich die Maschine mk3 (Hardware) ,die linux halt einfach nicht unterstützt. Ich habe zwar bitwig, was nativ unter linux läuft, aber auf meine (teure) Kollektion and Hardware und vsts will ich nicht verzichten.

Also zu Windows bzw. Linux: Ich würde ja gerne wechseln, aber solange es die Software, die ich nutze, nicht für linux gibt, bin ich halt an Windows gebunden. Für Softwareentwickler oder Leute die nur surfen und mails verschicken ist linux top, alles weitere ist mangels Software Support einfach schwer bis unmöglich unter linux.(gaming scheint zu mindestens inzwischen ziemlich stabil zu sein, wenn auch mit Einschränkungen)

Zum Thema WhatsApp: damals als das von Facebook gekauft wurde, bin ich zu Telegram gewechselt und habe mit viel mühe die Leute davon überzeugt, sich das zumindest zusätzlich herunter zu laden. Damals hatte Telegram noch nen guten Ruf. Bis heute muss ich aber mit einigen per SMS kommunizieren(gerade wenn ich neue Leute kennenlerne), bzw bekomme dinge nicht mit, die von Freunden in WhatsApp Gruppen besprochen werden. Ich würde eigentlich auch gern von Telegram weg, aber es war so eine verflucht anstrengende Arbeit zumindest meine engsten Freunde von Telegram zu überzeugen, das will ich mir nicht nochmal antun. Ich habe auch threema und Signal, aber da habe ich vielleicht 3 Kontakte. Ich könnte wohl ne matrix bridge einrichten aber meine Daten laden dann trotzdem bei Meta, weil ich ja einen WhatsApp Account dafür benötige

Ein weiterer Punkt der mich aktuell beschäftigt: Wie komme ich von Googles android weg? Es gibt wohl dieses GraphenOS, was anscheinend echt vieles gut beherrscht, aber ich brauche halt Android Auto, was nicht unterstützt wird.

Zumindest offiziell füttert openai sein Modell seit einiger Zeit nicht mehr mit User Eingaben. Ob man darauf vertrauen kann ist aber eine andere Frage.

Bin ein “kreativer” der seit 2 Jahren fast nur noch ki (seit Anfang des Jahres chatgpt) nutzt. Du hast völlig recht. Ich dachte halt, ich steig da frühzeitig da ein und eigne mir know how an, damit ich am Ende der bin, der das Ding bedienen kann. Hab dann zwar irgendwann weniger Kollegen, aber immerhin noch nen Job.

Ganz gut eigentlich. Mit so einem relogionsscheiß kannst du die Leute kontrollieren und mit Raumfahrt Geld verdienen. Win-win für die Oberschicht

After some Research and reading through the answeres here i think you are right. I do appreciate all the suggestions, but ditching my vsts and especially my Hardware really isnt an Option for me. I have spent too much money on them and i love working with them, and for a lot of them, there really just is now alternative that cones close to the quality. I dont want to talk down on all the amazing work the foss community has created, but i hope people understand that i dont wabt abandon my (expensive) collection. And in the end, my goal is to make nusic and not tinker around with an operating system. Maybe i will try a dual Boot solution. It really is frustrating though, i would really like to switch to Linux and i dont mind to put some effort in. But it seems that as long as the companies behind all the software dont Support linux, i will have to Stick with Windows.

I have fedora on my laptop and pretty happy with it. I know Vital and it is a great synth. But my vst library Contains a lot of stuff with live sampled Instruments like strings, horns , guitars, Bass and so on and while there are foss alternatives that are decent, they are nowhere near the Quality of a lot of paid stuff (there are exceptions of course). I really dont feel comfortable with ditching the quality i am used to and basically Throw away all the money i have spent on them.

Thanks a lot for the Hint about the vm solution, i will defenitely Look further into it. The only problem with actually running Linux on my Hardware i can think of would be secure Boot. But this can be turned off (i needed it for Windows 11 and some docker stuff i played around with). Years ago i had a dual Boot solution with win 7 and Ubuntu. But in the end i was more on Windows (gaming on Linux was way worse bock then) and eventually kicked Ubuntu off my harddrive.

It isnt even that i have actual Problems with win11, in fact i have to say it runs well and very stable, at least on my System. Its more like an “ideological” Thing. I just want to have As little big corpo stuff as possible.

Hey thanks for the Suggestion. Ill definetly will look further into Ubuntu studio. As i understand it includes all the important audio settings and drivers.

For my DAW i use Bitwig which runs natively on Linux, so that would be no Problem. The issue is more with my Hardware, Maschine mk3, and the Software it needs to Operate properly. Also yes i know there is a lot of free vsts, i used them when i started making music years ago. But since then i spent a lot of money on proprietary vsts that in a lot of cases (not all obviously) are just better. Especially when it comes to live sampled Romplers like Kontakt. Ditching my collection of Software i bought is therefore really not an Option. I dont want to talk down foss vsts and DAWs, there is a lot of really great stuff. But i hope you can understand that i dont want to Throw hundreds of Euro worth of Software to the trash.

Mal ne andere Sache bzgl. Der API: das ist echt scheiße für Wissenschaftler. Ich hab für meine Linguistische Masterarbeit über die API ein Korpus erstellt, sowas geht jetzt leider nicht mehr. Für die Forschung in der internetbasierten Kommunikation ist das echt mist, weil so der Zugang zu interessanten Daten erheblich erschwert wird.
