It’s physically impossible to be ‘unreasonably’ angry at parking lots! Reclaim your city’s land, people. You’re all paying for it
Turns out it’s difficult to make a tower stand up straight for 900 years
Gyms, stores, cafes, etc. aren’t good third places because you’re expected to pay money to be there
It’s also coarse, irritating, and rough
Believe it or not, but the engineers over there did probably actually think about this. Starlink isn’t competing with other providers that are at higher orbits such as Geostationary. They are deliberately placed lower for lower cost and transmission delay. When going from LEO to GEO, the limits of the speed of light make a tangible difference in latency between the satellite and the ground. In addition, the orders of magnitude lower cost to deliver to the lower orbit allows them to send many many more satellites, which increases throughout enough to make satellite internet actually usable for high bandwidth tasks.
Individual Starlink satellites are not permanent. You can argue whether it makes sense to constantly have to replace satellites in order to get more speed and lower latency, but that has nothing at all to do with some sort of engineering mistake. Comparing the longevity of Starlink satellites to satellite television, GPS, ISS, etc. is like comparing fuel mileage between a Prius and the Saturn V Crawler-transporter. They are in no means competing on this factor.
Because it’s a bogus story. It’s like saying that the leaves fell from a tree or water evaporated from a lake. The satellites are deorbiting because that’s what they are designed to do, rather than hanging around as space trash for hundreds of years.
I’m no scientist. A full tank tends to go farther on a diesel model than a gasoline one 🤷
And transportation… and production…
In Europe, diesel is usually cheaper and burns slower, so it saves money.
That’s definitely the case for now yes with the second stage, though even that is set to change with Starship. But I think it’s crazy how quickly some people discount the fact that they are able to land an orbital class rocket on its flamey end and launch it again, 16+ times over. Literally no one else has managed to do this, despite decades and billions of dollars of a head start.
The cost estimate is way way higher than reality. They are basing it off of what SpaceX charges for other companies using a brand new rocket, while they are actually providing their own launch at cost and reusing the vehicles many times. In fact, they recently broke their own record and launched as well as landed a rocket for the 16th time. This means that their actual cost is mostly fuel and some refurbishment costs, not the price of a fully new vehicle.
Would much rather that these small satellites burn up safely (as designed) rather than hanging around in orbit as trash for hundreds of years. Believe it or not, but they did actually think about this before sending the rockets up.
That method is very useful but it wouldn’t help you notice if every single company making a specific kind of product increased their prices the same amount (or reduced quantity)
It’s just infuriating when I close the lid, immediately remember that I needed to quickly look at whatever else on screen, and open it back up to a boot screen that takes 15-20 seconds to go away. First world problems maybe but my Android tablet can be locked without overheating in my bag and without losing all of its battery overnight, in addition to opening instantly.
Hibernate on lid shut, and I hate it
It’s the fault of the driver whether it’s engaged or not
It just seems to me that we should be focusing on things like automation and healthcare to actually solve the problem rather than trying to brute force it by increasing population everywhere. That’s just not sustainable in the long term, for us nor the planet. But I am not an expert on this subject
Why do these people always want to promote unlimited growth? Oh wait, higher profits
