I did comment that enforcement seemed to be part of the problem here, yes. Do the laws need to be more strict? I doubt that will fix any enforcement, since that’s the failure.

Guns are regulated. How much regulation, who gets allowed, what types of guns, and if the regulations are being enforced, those are the real questions. This warrant and shooting is a result of a law that wasn’t enforced well, as they had already broken the law once and yet someone sold/gave them guns again.
Except for one thing. Unless that society is also a lot different than ours, it would still require the product these companies produce to survive. So maybe a much stronger slap of the hand, but it wouldn’t eliminate them.
Just take him out for an all night party to get him drunk, and then accidentally open the door as the sun is rising.
Alternate history is messy. Look at all the speculative stories of how time travelers going back to get Hitler end up making a worse future for various reasons. Hitler is likely to have protection by the time police from time traveling “heroes” because so many think this is an easy fix.
No time travel goes unpunished.
Yes, with different effects. I’m not saying this will really have a measurable influence, but melt into Greenland waters is far worse than in most other places. Just look into papers discussing the AMOC slowdown and its causes.
You answered all the questions I had when I saw this. It does really depend on the context. Another positive thing might be that the amount of ice they are able to transfer to be used as ice cubes in a drink is less fresh water melt that would have gone into the oceans (affecting things like the AMOC), which is one of many concerns about Greenland’s melting ice.
I guarantee since the first printed material people tended to read the headlines and react first. If there had been a way to post an opinion in a printed newspaper instantly there would have been the same results.
The best part is that you don’t dare question what you do get, or you receive the “well, at least it’s something”. Yeah, I guess so, but if the intent is to make the employee feel valued it’s not working very well. I do have to say that a baked potato is still better than some things I’ve seen posted before.
(not so n)ice
Climate changes…abruptly.
More methane release overwhelms the natural breakdown agents in the atmosphere (hydroxyl radicals) so an increase bumps up the decay half life average and overall greenhouse gas effectiveness. We know there’s more methane leaks now due to both manmade sources as well as natural feedback loops from warming. Yet the IPCC still uses the older half life numbers for methane even now.
It’s talking about the annual global average, probably surface air since that’s mentioned later in the article. You’re right that it should be much more specific about what’s meant in the first sentence, not near the end.
“Too early” is cliché, but based what she had given us there was so much more she likely would have contributed in the future. Plus the kids losing their mother. That sucks.
The reason cited for nuclear propulsion enabling us to get to places like Mars faster is wrong. It’s not the amount of thrust, but the ability to use constant thrust longer (because we can fuel longer burns). It’s why the plot device of the Epstein drive in The Expanse opened up the whole solar system - they can do a burn for days and use up very little fuel. We’re nowhere near that, but nuclear would be far better than conventional rockets that have very limited burn time plus have heavy fuel to carry with them.
Musk is the kid in the video that moves all the people to just one of the tracks, gets praised by everyone for thinking outside the box, and then proceeds to run the trolley down that track.
Still better than Steve Bannon.
The interesting part of his shows back then wasn’t him, but the group that was put together to talk about issues of the time. When he wouldn’t butt in with his own thoughts. Terrible host, better hosts spark conversation and let the guests talk.
“it would have been quicker too had the victim not resisted so much.”
