I come back to lemmy and i read bullshit like this.
I come back to lemmy and i read bullshit like this.
I am never going to install linux on my gaming pc. It is too much work if you are into multiplayer/live service games. Windows just works if you uninstall all the ms crap.
Apps that will break doesn’t provide a uninstall option to begin with. For example edge.
I am from india. Our film industry is huge, the amount of local movies and tv shows is very hard to manage and watch through multiple streaming services (and this is not including the already popular netflix, prime, disney). I also watch foreign movies and tv shows. It is not that i can’t afford, it is the ease of use. I use gamepass and steam and those are all part of capitalism.
Yes that is true. But all i did was uninstall one drive and other microsoft apps i dont use from my pc, i didn’t do any reg edits or terminal commands.
Linux and jellyfin community is very active in lemmy. Not everyone use lemmy as a reddit alternative. I continue to use reddit.
Most of the people don’t think about capitalism when they turn on their pc and start a game. They just play their favourite games like cod and have fun. And windows just works. I use windows 11 and I don’t see ads on my pc.
Happy to see lemmy linux community not blindly hating windows and providing facts. Also you can use a package manager like choco to install apps from terminal so you dont have deal with clicking next.
I have clean installed windows on a lot of gaming laptops. Most of the time windows updates pulls in every driver for you if windows have the correct wifi driver to begin with. If it doesn’t i just download wifi driver on my phone and transfer it.
The workflow actually works on any browser. Chrome is used because that icon is recognisable and IT guy can just say click on the chrome icon and people understand that.
The point being game/app support matter a lot and you don’t get them because office pc uses linux for web browsing. If these developers follow the 4% market share they will disappointed by the actual usage. Windows doesnt have this problem eventhough it is fading away from enterprise.
In india due to low cellular data prices and android phone prices (chinese brands are huge in india) situation is very different. Consoles and pc hardware are priced differently compared to other electronics.
So most of the entire world is using windows/mac if they want to do something serious other than web browsing. And most of the linux desktop usage is contributed by enterprise and office pcs using linux. People still use windows and mac on their personal pc. So it is not a huge win if you want developer support for games and apps. Even if developers follow these numbers and start supporting linux, they will soon realise it is not worth their time because linux usage is mostly due to enterprise running chrome.
They don’t interact with the file system or ui. They call the IT guy if they cant login or connect to the network.
Linux lacking support for popular multiplayer games here and creator apps is not helping either.
So anyone who wants to do something serious on their pc still use windows and mac.
People who switch to linux on their personal pc know what linux is and why it is better. But people who use office pc dont know what os they are using and they still use windows on their personal laptops and desktops.
I actually want a steam deck, just to show my friends linux can do most gaming. But it is so expensive here in india.
So how are OS updates handled, they are not written into the main OS?
