Right, but aside from everybody deciding to return to monke overnight, this is the most the average singular person can do to fight climate change. The problem is multipronged and societal. Westerners eat way too much meat, westerners drive way too many high emission vehicles, westerners buy too much shitty plastic crap, westerners leave every light in the house on while they have 3 screens open scrolling/gaming/background noise.

Unfortunately, even if we stopped using all petroleum products right this second, there’s still that nasty 50 year lag between emissions and atmospheric outcome. We’ll be seeing the Earth get hotter and hotter for many years to come before it changes, and by that time, the cascading system failures of Earth’s biomes may be well past the point of no return.

While I totally hear you, the absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence. They said it was bacterial infections, RSV, and the common cold, and even leading scientists are saying this is normal. The headline is meant to incite surface level reactions like yours.

Things can improve over time, if everyone in Argentina is willing to take a massive L to their lifestyle/QOL.

Only way they could fix that type of inflation is with a currency surrender program so that it can be destroyed. Which won’t fare well for Argentinians.

All of those things you just wrote are symptomatic of lower intelligence. It’s not judgmental to say that most people are pretty stupid. We all have our moments of course, but most people are stupid when it comes to political ideology. Most people don’t know what the words populism, socialism, capitalism, fascism, communism, or democracy actually mean. You can see this anytime someone unironically calls something “literally 1984”.

Right, but from a “carbon footprint” perspective, making new humans is the worst thing a human could do for their footprint. What we need to get away from is the argument that our individual carbon footprints are too high. I mean, they are, but the ruling class is a lot more egregious.

Will just result in new draconian laws being drafted and enacted. Watch how fast people lose the right to peaceful assembly if it actually affected the ruling class.

I mean, over the years I’ve heavily reduced my meat intake, am super conscientious about transportation (haven’t flown in a decade, keep my revs low when I drive, and try to get all my errands done in efficient ways as to minimize gas usage), turn off lights, ration my hot water usage, don’t eat out at wasteful restaurants, buy “ugly” produce from the grocery store, promote renewable energy solutions whenever possible, compost, recycle, and create extremely little garbage. Yet, at my work, several of our AC generators that we use to power the facility use more oil in one day than my car does in its entire lifetime. Several handfuls of billionaires and their families emit the same amount of carbon as the poorest 66% of humanity. Seems to me, if we want to solve climate change, we have to get rid of the biggest polluters first, then transition to clean energy.

Because the vast majority of people aren’t intelligent. Most people barely subsist in western society, let alone take the time to study history and politics, let alone stay up to date on current events.

I assure you, at no point in human history, has anyone on the right ever acted for the good of the average citizen.

But it’s not even a desperate measure. It’s like, if you had terminal cancer, you wouldn’t drink bleach because you’re willing to try anything.

I’m astounded that people still aren’t aware that “right wing populist” means “your life will get harder”.
