  • The only thing i find off about the idea is essentially the project is effectively using a different backlight (using a different backlight isnt a completely new idea, its for instance what powers ibuypowers project snowblind pc cases(lcd sidepanel) as it replaces the backlight with internal pc conponents that shine bright white.

If you wanted to fix the problem, would it not just make more sense to put time and effort designing a better backlight for lcds for this use case rather than to rely on a top shot ambient light to do it?

  • How I see it, its more that if you use multi CCD cpus, you have to manage the CPU manually as some games prefer cache, some games prefer clockspeed, and the OS picks the wrong one at times (usually the clock speed) as the OS assumes the higher clock speed = faster. As the thread director works correctly with Intel chips for the most part (where the e cores have a lower clock) so the e cores are often not selected for performance.

The solution AMD will have to transition to is to exchange the other CCD for the core count focused design (e.g Zen 4 vs Zen 4c) which would be clocked lower to receive similar benefits from the current itteration of thread director.

  • Having capable hardware doesnt mean itll get supported well. Nvidia is the current largest dgpu vendor by a landslide (>80%) but doesnt support linux well. Turns out, hardware companies policies makes porting software harder. In context of apple, its by mandating Metal graphics api, and not allowing for the open source option of vulkan on OSX natively. Its apple putting more work on devs, when they can choose to also support Vulkan so that virtually all modern platforms could run a game without having to resort to conpatibility layers.

  • The point is, anything there is code speculation, virtually every single time they invent a new way to speed up performance, a new method of attack gets found. It doesnt matter if its Arm, it doesnt matter if its Apple, jt doesnt matter if its Intel, doesnt matter if its AMD, everyone has exploits as long as code speculation is a thing. If security is a severe issue, would the solution not be finding or using phones without code speculation period as as long as long as it exists, historyically speaking, its only a matter of time till an exploit exists for it.
