Doubtful. 20 years in Afghanistan bought us nothing. Half a century of meddling in the rest of central America has produced refugee waves. While we could, theoretically, try to assist the Mexican government with funds we’d probably fuck that up too.

The funny part is that I have legitimate accounts with Prime, Netflix, Paramount+, Apple and two others, but I still d/l and watch everything on Plex. (though I should probably admit that all the big names I get “free” via other services, like Prime, Tmo, etc).
Is this some joke I’m too yo ho ho to understand?
does it mean it won’t ask all the others and just assume they want to?
You’re close. It won’t ask non EEA users, but it will require they do so, much like Apple requires that you either have or create an account to use there products. There is no want/do-not-want, only mandatory participation in information collection and their push marketing channel.
big carbon capture plant
I didn’t realize they had one, or even cared that much about it (since their power sources are something like 99.9x carbon free). I knew there was a research site that was doing deep drilling on the peninsula, but not the purpose.
You’re getting downvotes, but the implication that transatlantic tourism will grind to a halt is a big deal, and very real. For Iceland it’s an even bigger concern as so much of their economy depends on tourism (though this is the slow season).
One thing I haven’t heard mentioned is the Icelandic water spring source. It’s a big ($2B+) operation and (supposedly) located on that peninsula. I looked for it but could only find the operational/business headquarters.
My FIL is going through some medical issues and considered going mostly vegetarian to try and reverse the (irreversible) organ damage he was told he had. His plan was just fish, eggs and poultry, with red meat just once or twice a week.
I’m not often speechless.
I love piracy like I love electricity - it makes my life easier, and I will extoll the virtues when asked. It doesn’t rise to a core political belief for me, though.
Saw some tiktoks with local footage of ground displacement and reports of 120cm ground level changes. I drove through Grindavik just last a couple of weeks ago. I really hope this magma finds a gentle way to the surface, out and away from the city.
Point goes to the arms dealer faction from lemm.ee
Yeah, we don’t exactly hold the high ground in the “not killing civilians when we’re on a patriotic rampage in a foreign country.” Heck, we don’t hold that high ground in our own country.
There is no strategy which will is acceptable to all political factions.
The Administration knows there is no solution to this conflict. It also knows there is no state-side position which is politically expedient.
I’m going to say this as loud as I can. There will be no winners in this conflict. Ever. For anyone, involved or on the sidelines.
This memo is confirmation that the US administration knows there is no solution and doesn’t want anyone to say anything because no matter what they say it will make things worse. This is a tacit admission that there is nothing anyone outside can do. It’s like trying to extinguish a lithium battery fire - the stored energy will continue to be exothermic until it’s expended and any attempt to tamp it down is likely to make things worse.
It’s a shitty position were in, but this isn’t some Hollywood script where you can just write a happy ending. There is no happy ending.
Indeed. There are too many humans by at least one order of magnitude. The only reason we need population growth is to perpetuate the capitalistic ponzi scheme government and corporations are running.

kinda neat
Climate debate over folks. “Kinda neat” trumps destroying the environment every day of the week. If they were just “sorta neat” or “not really neat” we could ban them, but putting a few hundre metric tons of plastics into the waste stream is a reasonable tradeoff when you’re at the level of “kinda neat”.
I kid, of course…kinda.
You want a finger? I can get you a finger. It’s not his, Dude.
If your airplane suffers sudden decompression and you get sucked out a window, would it technically be a defenestration?
I agree. Outlaw petroleum extraction and then just nuke the areas that have the petroleum workers. Blame the nukes on Russia or China. No more industry, no jobs to worry about. [brushed dust off hands] Done and done.

Yeah, but can you do it offline/without an active internet connection - the preinstalled windows Netflix app can.
That puts a smile on my face.
