  • I first cited a nazi sympathizer without noticing this. After they refused to accept this, I cited the UN instead. Guess what they said in the comments? That the oppression of Uyghurs is not genocide.

The comments weren’t entirely mild either. Have you not seen those screenshots of comments using insults? Don’t you think it’s a red flag that such a large portion of hate speech on Lemmy is from Hexbear?

If you like Hexbears, you should leave lemmy.world and go make an account on an instance that has not defederated from them.

  • I apologize for saying “how good it is.” I was in a rush and couldn’t think of a better phrase.

I just read through the article from the Washington Post you linked. That really is bad and I believe that the Trump government should not have treated the (although illegal) immigrants. The grim appearance of that facility really isn’t something that the immigrants should have faced when they set foot on the US. However, compare that to the situation in Xinjiang. Here is an opinion post from the Washington Post. What China is doing to its Uyghurs is genocide. Not that it justifies anything that the US have done to its immigrants, but in comparison what the US is doing seem pretty mild.

  • I started writing out a timeline but I don’t know what position you’re asking from so I will say for the sake of brevity that the US kept the KMT from being run out of all of China […] which make up its other value to the US besides geographical position.

Yes, I know about its not-so-glorious past and the White Terror. Thousands of innocent civilians were killed. It was terrible. However, I must respectfully disagree with you on the “puppet state” part. I don’t think that Taiwan is a puppet state. The US sponsoring Taiwan is a thing of the past. Neither is a pathetic diplomatic position a good reason for being a puppet state.
