This is hardly the first, and definitely not the last corporate fad. We should have just about finished moving everything to the block chain by now.

I remember the cube, might not have been this, might have just been the animation to change desktops.
That’s the standard in North America as well for single family homes or even condo buildings where they might put the condenser on the balcony or use a heat pump with a central loop.
I would guess these are popular in New York because they have many many old buildings with central heat and it’s easier to punch a hole in the wall then hang somethings off the building 8 floors up. Also easier to work on the unit.
Sounds like you need to improve your communication with your wife about her potential IV drug use and extramarital affairs.

I also can’t do 3 hour podcasts where people talk over each other and yell either so maybe I’m just not the target demo anymore.

The people around him sure do though
tempest@lemmy.cato News@lemmy.world•New Bill Would Make All Pornography a Federal Crime in the U.S.21·6 days agoNah this type of law exists to be selectively applied, that’s what makes it so great.
The only people who it will be applied to are those who are “undesirable” or step out of line.
tempest@lemmy.cato Technology@lemmy.world•Kids are short-circuiting their school-issued Chromebooks for TikTok cloutEnglish1·8 days agoLet me give you a bit of the outside of the story as well.
For sure tiktok and meta and Google want you in their walled Garden for all the obvious reasons. However, and it’s gotten even worse as of late, if you have any kind of computationally expensive but desirable content/data the crawlers/scrapers/scripters will pummel your site. Despite how annoying you find the captchas and bot detection a computer doesn’t give too shits about it and at this point they basically serve as a rate limit or effort to make your content too computationally expensive to scrape and be worth it.
While accounts don’t necessarily solve this problem they do help as another impediment.

tempest@lemmy.cato PC Master Race@lemmy.world•You can do anything son, don't let the system limit youEnglish10·11 days agoConsumer cards are often actually bigger than the datacenter counterparts.
Most CPUs and GPUs in a rack just have low profile heat sinks and depend on the chassis to move the air. Since a datacenter doesn’t care about noise the chassis will just have a shot load of fans running full tilt over the fanless components.
Though when you get up to the large ML cards from AMD for example they have like Kleenex box sized heatsinks on them.
Those are not usually real gold though.

Kernel level anti cheat is such crap.
It isn’t true Arch though, so the Arch forums would never accept them. They would have to go install from scratch to be able to get “I use arch btw” badge.
I use endeavouros btw.

And giving more tax breaks to companies that stay and sell in the US?2·21 days agoThe reality is that there is no tax break large enough to make up the difference in costs for a lot of things. Even with tariffs China is still cheaper.
Year of the desktop has been a meme so long the people spouting it have failed to realize that the desktop itself is in decline.
There are many many people for which a mobile phone or tablet is their only computer. If you want to count Android as a Linux distro then year of the Linux desktop has come and gone ten years ago.
