I’ve never been much of a beach person, although my main issue is the heat, so that should be fine this time of year.

But the forest sounds nicer to me, the flowers are just coming out right now and there are many birds ! All the greenery is also very relaxing, plus there’s a chance to see some more wildlife (perhaps a deer ? Thankfully, wasting disease hasn’t reached the local population !)

The only two other possible endings to this were :

1. The locals kill him
2. The locals kill him, but also get some illness they have no immunity for, and they all die.

We have our turf wars but we’re all secretly friends. Friendly competition keeps everyone motivated !

I do ! I use NoScript in Firefox, and I allow scripts selectively when they’re needed. You’d be surprised how many websites just work with everything off !

This may differ depending on your usage, though. I don’t really use in-browser apps if at all possible, and I don’t use conventional social media aside from YouTube and Reddit (PeerTube and Lemmy are better but there’s still too much info / people on the corporate versions to fully switch over)

Full disk encryption with a LVM inside a LUKS arrition is pretty easy to setup, arch wiki is very helpful for that ! You can even encrypt most of the bootloader, so the drive is 100% useless if stolen.

It takes me most of the morning 😆 I’m an afternoon / evening person, the morning is for listening to the birds and looking out the window while lazily responding to messages and doing the easy busywork ; so it’s all out of the way for the real work of the afternoon.

I need a slow and peaceful morning so I can ramp up.

The main issue about the second thing is that I wouldn’t expect someone I barely know to risk their life for me. I don’t think this makes them bad people, though. I think it’s reasonable.

If he is, one of our conditions for trade should be to change his title immediately to something less weird.

My sympathies. I will be watching the responses, I’m 170cm and I’ve never broken past 55kg, no matter how hard I’ve tried… I’m vegan, but I had the same problem long before I went vegan.

My body seems intent on pinning my weight to this value. Even in periods of high sedentary lifestyle or high exercise, I’ve always been between 53 and 55 kilograms. My fitness watch does report other metrics improving (VO2 max) but my weight stays the same 🤷🏻‍♀️

Afaik, they were forced to log and report IP addresses for the user’s mail logins.

They can’t do that for their VPN, though, so I’ve seen some people recommend you create your account through another VPN or via their Onion service, and then only connect with the VPN on.

This seems fragile at best, and isn’t helped by the fact the most anonymous payment option they accept is cash by mail, which is still quite traceable. They also take bitcoin, which is extremely traceable.

If they expand to accept Monero, I’ll reconsider, but for now I’m sticking with Mullvad. I use mailbox.org for mail, which does log IP addresses (for 4 days), but it is a separate account from my VPN so I don’t really care.

I’m also put off by their recent posts supporting the Republican Party. It is really strange for a privacy company to support authoritarians, and the addition of them leaving Mastodon but staying on Xitter doesn’t inspire much confidence in them.

I wish I could seed but Mullvad doesn’t allow port forwarding, and ProtonVPN has given out IPs under court order so I don’t trust them for any purpose.

I’ll have to look into other VPNs I think, because I’m ideologically very much for seeding.

As one of the earliest Discord users, it pains me to see this, but it doesn’t surprise me. Ever since Nitro became a thing, Discord has been slowly but surely digging its grave.

I have no particular attachment to the platform, we will just move to something different if alternate Discord apps aren’t available to disable the ads.

Good riddance to this un-indexable deep-web mess, where information goes to die and never be found again. We only really used it for the voice chat anyway 🤷🏻‍♀️
