I think it would be nuclear warfare. Nuclear fission is a universal development for any advanced civilization. It would be easy to construct a nuclear bomb in an advanced civilization. Once a few rogue/pariah states start making them, everyone’s screwed.
Making nukes is easy, the only reason we don’t see more nuclear states on earth is because of the international backlash. With a couple more Iran and North Korea’s we’ll likely meet the filter ourselves.
Sharpening/polishing knives and tools. No music or videos, just the sharpening. Water stone and warm water too.
It’s cathartic to do a good job sharpening and spending the time to get a good result. Especially when you get to the buttery smooth finishing stones. They’re quiet but have, quiet, subtle sounds that are relaxing to listen to.
So much lost knowledge. Even on forums that remain, I feel as though 80% of all images no longer function. Especially frustrating when said image is constantly referred to.
People who use it (for forum type chatting) are probably trying to avoid non enshittified platforms. Ironically they don’t realize discord is heading towards the same path. Free screen sharing, high quality voice calls, image and video sharing and file sharing for FREE is not sustainable. Eventually they are going to crackdown on its users, which is unfortunate but predictable.
Because the FTC is toothless when it comes to EULAs. You can sign your rights away by agreeing to it (which is required to play the game).

On India itself, its impressive that it’s the world’s largest democracy. Indians are well educated relative to similarly poor countries and have high English literacy, which is why many believe it could outpace China.
I admire their charitibility. My local area has a large Indian population as I live near a large hindu temples in the US. There is always cheap, high quality food for those in need (1$ for a large plate of food). The kitchen is operated by volunteers and rely on donations and food banks. I Believe this is also common practice in many temples within India proper.
There are plenty of unsavory things such as the caste system but overall harbor a lot of respect for the country and people.
Writing. It slows you down so you have to think about the task. Plus it’s so much more satisfying to cross something out than mashing delete. Plus checking your paper lists won’t tempt you with distractions.

It’s certainly not normal but it’s frankly inevitable. All it takes is some fraying wire, failing insulation, manufacturing defect on the PCB or components and something slightly flammable nearby (usually the product itself). That and how much stuff people usually have plugged in, somebody is going to experience a fire eventually.
Regulations on Chinese garbage are practically non existent. There are countless cheap chargers that will start fires. One nearly caused one in my home as a kid.
To be honest, with a company as massive and diverse of Samsung, you are guaranteed to have multiple products that catch fire in one way or another. Samsung makes up 20% of South Korea’s entire economy, that’s the monolithic scale of Samsung.
When a regime can literally track what their entire population is doing at any given moment but won’t make easily fileable taxes 😮💨
I’m personally baffled at how many are killed in automobile accidents. 44,000 Americans every year. American KIA numbers for the entirety of the global war on terror is around 5,000. That is roughly only one month’s worth of automobile deaths.
Americans dead in Vietnam is around 58,000 over ten years. That’s only a year and a half worth of automobile deaths.
Even in WW2, over 4 years, 416,000 americans lost their lives, around 104,000 per year. Even during the deadliest war in history, automobiles today still kill 44% as many year to year. Granted the war did not touch America as much relatively but are still mind boggling statistics.
It feels as though learning to drive is merely fueling the cycle. More cars cause politicians to invest further in road infrastructure instead. More people giving up on public transportation further starves it of the funding it deserves and desperately needs.
Give him a very basic and cheap toolkit you know he already has. Firstly, he already has those tools and secondly he assumes you doubt his ability due to the cheapness of the tools. Like giving a Michelin chef a dollar store copper knife, they’d assume you think they can’t cook.
Something like a 2 pack of a Phillips and flathead screwdriver. So common even non DIY people always have them, and so cheap that they are useless.
Kind of hard to explain but hopefully that gets the pount across.
I would do more woodwork and get some actual projects done. I would also spend more time cooking and practicing.
I would volunteer more, things like soup kitchens and furniture restorations for the less fortunate. I would also (hope to) kick my gaming habit since I would have the energy to do something more physically intensive .
By the way, offer up and letgo have combined now. If you want to ditch stuff quick, do a yard sale and offer dirt cheap prices. If you want to maximize profit, eBay (but that’s a loooot of work, my work does that and it’s half my workload).
If you want an in-between, you can go on fb marketplace and offer up. There are tons of annoying bots though.
Some towns have their own local community platform/forum for you to post through.
Ultimately though, a lot of stuff will probably be trashed. Even if something has a good shelf price, actually selling it is pretty hard. At work, something has to sell for greater than 20-40$ to break even on storing it, tracking it, packing it and shipping it.
You can also donate much of it to thrift stores.
First, avoid Amazon. All the stones on there are scams, if you contact the manufacturer you’ll see that these stones are less than a dollar in bulk.
I sharpen tons of knives and tools, so I use around 5 or 6 stones, but if you are looking just to sharpen your knives, you only need 2, and a strop.
I’d say most people only need a 1000 grit stone, especially if they have a strop. I’ve been using a naniwa lobster for a while. Even though the aluminum oxide abrasive is not very aggressive, and slow on very hard steels, it leaves a very keen edge. After some stropping you will have a razor sharp edge if done correctly.
Of course there are many other options for good stones, shapton’s korumaku series, shapton’s glass series, naniwa chosera/professional series, king (in general).
Aside from water stones, diamonds are also popular. In my personal, unpopular, opinion, they cut so efficiently that the feedback is lacking and it’s difficult to get a crisp edge off the stone. They also don’t like abuse and can be ruined with aggressive use.
For the strop, you don’t need anything fancy. You also don’t need compound either, though I usually use natural stone powder.
I avoid reddit out of principle even though I would prefer it. It’s only going down hill from here on out and they’ve neglected their app so much it’s too painful to attempt to use it.
My main reasoning is content and sometimes the comments. Content here is a bit slow but a lot commenters are kind of a-holes and painfully obnoxious. Especially from lemmy.ml, always a little anxious when I comment.
Maintain a basic schedule.
Those who say this are usually frustrated by the increasing number of misunderstandings/miscommunications due to increasing English illiteracy. Its become more difficult to communicate to those around you.
It’s utterly unacceptable behaviour but I believe the issue lies deeper than simple “racism”. I also sometimes find it frustrating from the sheer volume of people that can’t speak English, from coworkers, customers, fellow students, etc. I don’t even live near the border, where the problem is much worse.
