Absolutely, the formative years in politics for all the people running things in the west were during the fall of USSR, and they internalized the idea that the west is effectively unchallenged globally. The world has changed dramatically since then, but these people haven’t bothered to keep up. Now we see western politicians make one blunder after another because their world model is completely divorced from reality.

I will be absolutely shocked if they don’t pull the trigger on this. The trend has been that expert advice is always ignored and they just act out of anger like spoiled children. Experts warned not to cut Russia off from SWIFT, not to try and do oil price caps, not to freeze the assets, and so on. Each and every time the neocons got their way in the end. And now they’re the angriest and most desperate they’ve been. Their whole project Ukraine is teetering on collapse and they can’t get money approved through normal means, so stealing Russian funds will be seen as the way to keep the show running.

I think we’re already starting to see this happening. A lot of interesting stuff has been announced at the BRI meeting that’s happening now. Most importantly, the establishment of new trade routes around Eurasia. We’re basically seeing a new world economy emerging centred on China right now. And this is happening completely outside western control. The trade routes go through countries that are either neutral or openly hostile to the west leaving very little opportunity for western powers to interfere. And I expect we’ll see Global South countries increasingly choose to align themselves with this rising economic bloc.

There is also a slow motion crash happening in the west right now, and at some point we are going to see major economic disruptions. If China manages to insulate itself sufficiently from western economies, then its model will gain a huge amount of credibility going forward.
