You VERY likely have CHS, which means you’re definitely overdoing the weed and should go cold turkey if you can manage that.
Prodromal phase. Symptoms during this time may include:
Often early morning nausea and belly (abdominal) pain.
Some people also develop a fear of vomiting.
Most people keep normal eating patterns during this time.
Some people use more marijuana because they think it will help it stop.
This phase may last for months or years.
Hyperemetic phase. Symptoms during this time may include:
Ongoing nausea
Repeated episodes of vomiting
Belly pain
Decreased food intake and weight loss
Symptoms of fluid loss (dehydration)
If any of the “Prodromal” phase items fit your lifestyle, YOU NEED TO STOP.
Your enteric nervous system is SCREAMING at you that you are overdoing it. Please stop before it gets to the hyperemetic phase (you will lose so much weight that you will fear your own death).
Trust me, vomiting your soul out for 8 hours (5x an hour) is NOT fun and is actually insanely risky depending on the state of your overall health! Drink up, consider the app: Quit Weed
On the off chance this fits the bill, you’re welcome (and I’m sorry) mate @FlyingSquid@lemmy.world
This definitely sounds like that other guy lol!
The bright side is that the sooner you acknowledge the problem, the sooner the perma-vomiting feeling goes away!
I also have chronic pain, so I really feel for squid.
I worked in the Cannabis industry for 15 years in both the legal and gray markets. I think Cannabis should be legal, and I have personally worked towards making that possible for my entire adult life because the damage caused by locking people in cages for possession of a plant is unquantifiable. HOWEVER, I think it is also important to understand the legitimate risks and adverse effects of Cannabis consumption.
I have known about Cannabis Hypermesis Syndrome for many years, have experienced some of the early symptoms first hand, and have witnessed other people who have gone through its effects. I have also experienced many of the other issues of long term Cannabis consumption such as chronic insomnia, REM sleep dysfunction, and appetite suppression. These issues are very real, and it is important to provide proper education to people so they know what the risks can be from chronic consumption.
There are also legitimate links to schizo-affective disorders being triggered in people who have those latent or genetic predispositions. There is also the long term danger from pesticide exposure and consumption. The regulations around that are not as strict and universal as they need to be, especially for products that are being vaporized or smoked. Companies will do anything to make a buck, and it can be an incredibly unforgiving industry that is either feast or famine.
Please people, do appropriate research. Understand what you are consuming. Make sure you are dealing with reputable distributors, and push for more common sense regulations including full federal legalization so we can do better scientific research. Lastly, everything in moderation including moderation. Listen to your body, and make sure you are respecting it by responsibly modulating what you are putting in it.
Edit: Accidentally a word

A gray market is TYPICALLY a legal dispo selling on the dark web to avoid the taxes (and get more sales because the limits are non-existent)
“Prettypacks” for example is definitely a dispensary somewhere on the west coast that sells carts for like $5 (and you can buy way more than the legal limit of I think 7-8 in CA)
What I was referring to specifically was the pre-state legalization era. When I started in the medical market it was still a legal gray area at best, thus the “gray market” moniker. I started before the dispensary proliferation, and things were still very much word of mouth.
The crazier part is when you start using more to combat the stomach ache it’s giving you. That’s when the downward spiral happened for me at least. Really appreciate you writing this out :)! It’s important to note this article states:
“I don’t want anyone to stop using cannabis…” “I want them to be aware of the symptoms [of CHS]”
Been a daily smoker for over 20 years, never had any of these issues (so far). Then again, a warned man…
Only a post to be aware not scare!
I let it fuck up several weeks of my life and did the entire “what could it POSSIBLY BE??? CERTAINLY NOT THE WEED RIGHT?”
I imagine (esp w/ t-breaks) it’s a non-issue for 99% of people’s normal consumption.
The person @'d went to the mayo clinic for issues that to me sounded like this so I made the post!
Oh I’m not dismissing your information, quite the opposite even! Just anecdotally mentioning that I don’t seem affected even after prolonged heavy use. Even though I’m decidedly a lightweight with a sensitive stomach. I’m not delusional enough to claim it can’t harm me. I just hope my body keeps coping well.
Only a post to be aware not scare!
Then why it is written like scaremongering tabloid trash?
Because if you’re vomiting >1x a day, you have a serious medical condition and should see a doctor and stop doing drugs to see if that is what is causing it.
Yeah, you probably do and should see a doctor to find out why.
Not trust some lemmy post that jumps to a diagnosis based on literally nothing. This post is less valubalbe then self disgnosing yourself with cancer on webmd.
Pretty sure this post is almost entirely direct at flyingsquid, this was entirely uncalled for.

DMs exists then.
Dude really came in here to be pissed for no reason 😂

The response is to the question: Do you wake up in the morning and dry heave all day?
Which isn’t exactly projecting. Did you say yes?
Alcohol is the cause of 4% of cancer cases world wide which was 740,000 new cancer patients in 2020 due to Alcohol consumption.
My father killed himself with alcohol, you’re preaching to the choir mate.
Substance abuse is still substance abuse. Drug addiction is still an addiction at the end of the day.
Edit: Was this in reference to the “Drink Up” part? I meant like water (because CHS makes you sweat like a motherfucker)
