Phenomenal race, absolute box office stuff. Something happening somewhere every lap, bold strategy calls, flat out driving for the win, chaos, uncertainty and some slick moves to boot. Albon’s double overtake, anyone?

These are the races that remind us of why we watch this goddamn thing. I wish Norris hadn’t gotten unlucky with the safety car but that’s just me being greedy for the sake of the championship table. And Max really deserved the win too, he absolutely had to push himself for this one.

Will be a tough ask to top this race for the rest of the season.

Just finished watching a replay cause I wasn’t staying up for a 4am race start, but that was easily the best race of the season. There was actual racing, good overtaking, different strategies in play, and you genuinely weren’t sure who would win for a good portion of the race.

    More races like that please.

Completely worth staying up late into the night. Man proper racing tracks (and yes I consider circuit gilles Villeneuve to be proper circuit even though it is classified as a ‘street circuit’) are so much better than street tracks

Yeah this doesn’t feel like a street race in any way. It’s such a great circuit and the weather really helped too!

He was rolling before the start, you could see the tread on his tyres moving. Must have just went out of his box :/

It’s rare that you watch a race that is just thrilling start to finish outside the safety cars. Lando and George really gave us quite a show and it’s great to see Oscar being able to just follow Lando around. Good show from Lewis as well. Gutted for the Ferrari’s although their race was pretty much over before it started.

Fantastic race! I’m gutted for Lando, but that’s racing, it worked in his favour in Miami. That Albon overtake on two cars was absolutely sublime.

Races like this make me ask this. Why did Red Bull re-sign Perez?

Good race. All F1 need to do is make it rain on every race day.

Sorry to be a pedantic twat, but it’s “re-sign”. “Resign” would mean that he quit Red Bull.

Remember that they are effectively just re-signing to red bull in both teams, plenty of performance clauses to replace him with a Visa Cash App driver

Had the rain lasted, a Haas could have won that race. But, it did not. Had 2 - 4th Had worked together in the end, Max wouldn’t have won. But, that is not the nature of F1 drivers. Good racing.

I doubt it, everyone else would have put the wets on if it had carried on raining and then Haas would have lost that small advantage they had.

Even if they everyone else pitted I’d think everyone else would catch up to them. It’s a lot of if and buts, as there would almost certainly be safety cars which would change things up.

So is driving a car red Bull, McLaren or Merc over a Haas. Not even mentioning the fact that a better driver can be seconds faster in the wet. That 18+ second advantage is not as big as you think it is for a person in a slow car

Yep, Max finished the race 28 seconds ahead of Ricciardo in P8. He created that gap in 12 laps since the final SC. Haas could capitalize on rain and earn points, but winning the race? No way.

They still finished 30+ seconds behind the lead, so not a win but maybe higher

Awesome race but I’m going to echo something I read online I agree with

There should be no inters … Either run on Wets or risk slicks

In inters, the race becomes Monaco where nobody dates to pass because if you leave the dry line you are fucked. On Wets it should be a normal race (albeit a slower speed one) and then, the first ballsy team to get the timing right on slicks would get a massive advantage… But it would be a risky move (like a game of chicken)

What a genious idea, lets give the teams less safe options and force them to take absolutely insane risks in difficult conditions.

      What could possibly go wrong

They will stay on Wets and complete at slower speeds… Then switch to slicks when a race is a possible so it does not run into a parade of the dry patch

IMO the inters are actually more dangerous because they permit more speed on the dry patch, but all it takes is stepping a few inches into the wetter area to go out flying.

And maybe I misinterpreted the “risk the slicks” part… I checked the original vid and they actually said something like only switch to slicks after the stewards give the go ahead, this will create a bit of a rush to switch to slicks ASAP or decide whether to stay out on wets a little longer (I think that approach is actually safer)
