It is a shame that relations haven’t been severed entirely.
It is a shame that relations haven’t been severed entirely.
Growing up in Saudi Arabia I had access to more international news and more varied viewpoints than people in the US.
Ever since satellite receivers went mainstream in the 1990s. Any household has access to news from: Iran, Russia, China, Britain, France, Germany, the Zionist occupation, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Turkey, UAE, …, and not just that but also news channels affiliated with Hamas, Hezbollah, Ansar Allah, and other groups and sects, and even US comedy news such as Fox News and Alhurra.

I hope my government is more than the US-puppet it appears to be at times. Being wealthy has its drawbacks, you have more to lose and we have been spoiled by our government. A lot of Saudis don’t want to lose their relaxed lifestyle. How else did the richest Arab country lose to the poorest Arab country? Sometimes I wish we were poor like Yemen.
I haven’t read the article, yet, but I will go back to a statement a Saudi official made about how the Chinese are willing partners and don’t impose insufferable terms on economic and technological partnerships. The Saudi official mentioned how Saudi Arabia first pursued such deals with Western countries, but the terms demanded were unfavourable, and so China is winning because the West is choosing to lose.
Edit:
I’m reading it now, and this is a very critical piece of information:
While Western regimes were barking like rabid dogs over BRI, China was winning new markets and reducing its dependence on the West.
We like being wooed, much more than being coerced.
And the only source they cite is the Council on Foreign Relations.
