We’re social creatures. The laugh track makes us feel like we’re in a social situation. I think different shows use this more or less cynically.

For DF: The free version had a Linux build for a long time. The paid version adds new graphics, and it took a while for that to get a Linux release.

For Minecraft: you should be able to play without an account if you’re single player and using a third party launcher. I almost exclusively play with friends.

I use mailbox.org personally. Disroot is probably fine. Do they have 2FA? That would be the most essential thing you want here if you’re worried about being hacked by an outside party. 2FA would even mitigate a password leak in most cases, since they’d only have 1 of the authentication factors.

If you’re worried about hacking, you can do some things to mitigate the damage that would cause. Download important old emails and delete them from the server, this is pretty easy to do in a desktop client (like thunderbird or outlook) where you’d just move them to a local folder. That way if someone gains access, or they sell to someone that processes the data, they won’t have the old emails (unless they for some reason retained a separate copy, which seems doubtful).

Sign your email up for https://haveibeenpwned.com/. Then you’ll get notifications if there’s any data leaks, including of your email provider. Obviously this is only useful if nobody has stolen your account before the leak is reported, but that’s more likely than not (unless you’re a particularly valuable target for some reason).

A craftsmen wouldn’t be damaging it, they’d be modifying it to make it more useful to you.

IMO Obsidian is already a little rogue, in the sense that it only supports their sync. I know you can glue something together by syncing the folder itself, but that’s not convenient or the point. For now I’ll stick with Joplin because it works with nextcloud nicely.

The Transit app, used for bus/train route info and buying tickets. I imagine the ticket buying part would be difficult to OS, but I just want the live transit routing info. A few apps exist for other cities, but not mine. Worst part is Transit relies on Google Maps.

Also, no, this is not an ideal way to do this. Ideally every package you want is in your distro’s repos so you’d just need to do “apt install [package]”.

The reason this one isn’t is because mullvad wants to make sure you use their tested, secure, and updated version and they don’t want to maintain that for every distro. So they have you configure your package manager to use their repos.

This is relatively uncommon to come across in Debian. You’ll normally only find it in security applications or very niche ones. The Debian repos aren’t the most comprehensive but they’ll contain the vast majority of common softwares.

Been trying to think of a term for this issue. It’s not quite chicken or egg. But both sides need the other side to incentivize them. If one gets going the other will follow, but they’re waiting for each other. Like some sort of collaborative standoff.

They don’t. I’ve been on the same Debian install on laptop and desktop for years. It’ll make some odd decisions with packages sometimes, but it hasn’t bricked.

Not at all. I use a tiling WM, and most of my time is spent in text editors or a browser. I just like having everything visible and spaced out automatically for me.

I think tiling WMs just have a lot of overlap with the terminal-heavy crowd. They tend to require some manual set up, and they tend to be very keyboard shortcut heavy. Both things also popular with people that tend to like using terminals.

Also keep in mind most screenshots advertising someone’s set up are to show off, not their regular workflow. It’s like looking at someone’s professional head-shots and wondering if they usually dress like that.

But that’s exactly the problem. If the company is kind about it, or forced to play nice by effective regulation, there’s no issue. But if there’s no regulation and the company wants to, it tends towards monopolistic tendencies. And there’s nothing that incentivizes a company to play nice forever, in fact they’re incentivized to maximize profit. So Vertical Integration is bad without being checked.

The main issue nowadays is anticheat. If you play esports (league of legends,apex legend, fortnite), you will have trouble. Pretty much everything else will be good to go.

First two directors I used to be into but no longer:

I loved Tarantino’s work but I feel that I’ve “outgrown” it. I’m just not that interested in ultraviolence anymore.

Similarly, big fan of Wes Anderson, especially Moonrise Kingdom, but the incredible whiteness (both in cast and settings) of the majority of his movies has me longing for something more diverse (again, in both literal casting and in thematic backgrounds).

DANIELS - I really enjoyed Swiss Army Man, tho it was flawed. I was hyped for Everything Everywhere and it delivered and then some. Can’t wait to see what they do next if that was just their second one.

Makoto Shinkai - All of his work is so achingly beautiful. Love it.

Jordan Peele - Loved Get Out of course. Us was interesting but didn’t stick as much. Even NOPE was flawed but still very unique and intriguing. I want to see what else he has.

Ari Aster - Hereditary was good, and Midsommar was amazing. I heard very little at all about Beau is Afraid (which is almost worse than hearing bad things), and I haven’t seen it yet. Still intrigued to see what’s next.
