I’m convinced there are people out there that just downvote everything. They get some kind of chemical release in their brains when they hit the downvote button. You could say “being happy feels good” and someone out there will downvote it.
I would say they just fat-fingered it. hopefully.
I think it’s fat fingering then others dont think for themselves and just go with whatever it already is.
Feels awful when you had a creative comment but just didn’t spell it out well enough and it gets like 3 downvotes 🥲like noo I didn’t mean it in a bad way, I just like falling asleep to technical videos and that’s a compliment coming from me 😭😭
A feature that’s carried over from reddit is utterly random downvotes sometimes

It’s the kind of thing you might chuckle at once, but so many comment threads end up piled with the same brain rot nonsense as people trip over themselves to parrot their quirky internet catchphrases.
Those are like pronoun and vegan “jokes”; maybe the first or second one is funny, but they get unfunny FAST.

I actually found myself tempted to say exactly that earlier today. Someone said something about sucking, and my initial instinct was, “That’s what she said!”, but then I thought about the audience and felt like the gender neutral “they” might be more appropriate, but I wasn’t really sure, so instead I said nothing.
That’s why it’s fun, at least to me.

Novelty/troll accounts. I’ve seen a lot of them pop up on Reddit over the years. The most infamous one I remember was one called Gradual_****** (yes, the n-word) that would type out ordinary replies that would gradually switch to ebonics.
I really enjoyed the art accounts and shittymorph.
A lot of the original ones for year ago were pretty good like shitty watercolour
I actually enjoyed some of those accounts, but for sure some of them were annoying.
I recall that from many years ago. Some of the wayward white American culture on that site is definitely off putting. That user was generally received well which says a lot about the soul of a community (or if it even has one).
Every single comment thread on anything that reaches r/all quickly devolving into the most unfunny and unoriginal jokes and/or references. Regardless of how grim/serious the original post was.
Especially egregious: someone quotes a Simpsons/South Park/whatever episode and the next 20 comments are people quoting the rest of the episode

Yea, I should have been clearer.
It’s weird, not once have I wanted to comment “this” on Lemmy. But I did it all the time on Reddit. Maybe because I felt a disconnect between voting (rewarding a comment that contributed) and agreeing with the comment.
Maybe the comments on Lemmy are not so knee-jerk and numerous that there’s not a reason to simply show agreement.

Karma was a thing in early Lemmy but it was removed by popular demand. I can’t see them ever adding it back.
